PRECISION IN MATERIAL. CLARITY IN SUPPLY.

AUSTENITIC

316L / 1.4404 Stainless Steel

A low-carbon, molybdenum-alloyed austenitic stainless steel considered for process equipment requiring greater corrosion resistance than 304L. Selection for seawater and chemical service depends on actual operating conditions.

Assess molybdenum benefits in context

Molybdenum improves localised corrosion resistance in many chloride environments compared with 304L. Temperature, pH, stagnant fluid, deposits and gasket crevices can change performance. The 316L designation alone does not establish suitability for continuous seawater exposure or every chemical fluid.

Cleaning is part of service

Define cleaning chemicals, concentration and rinsing as well as the process fluid. The machined surface can differ from the bar’s supplied surface. Stating required roughness, post-weld cleaning and document scope helps compare quotations carrying the same grade designation.

Typical application areas

Chemical equipment, food processing, pump and valve components.
