A stainless grade known for springs
301 is an austenitic stainless steel associated with spring strip and flexible connections. Its ability to offer high strength in thin sections is useful in light moving mechanisms. The same grade is available in different strength conditions, so soft sheet and spring strip do not behave alike. Parts needing stainless behaviour alongside repeated elastic movement illustrate its main role.
Elastic response and permanent deformation
A spring or clip deflects under load and returns to its initial shape when the force is removed. High-strength 301 products help this movement occur without permanent deformation. That is valuable in thin, lightweight parts. The amount of movement and the force carried also depend on the thickness and geometry of the component.
Where is it used?
Clips, spring strips, electrical connections, diaphragms and small mechanism components are common applications. These products may need resistance to environmental moisture alongside repeated movement. Sheet and strip in 301 combine these characteristics within a small volume, supporting use across electrical equipment and mechanical connections.
Differences from 304 and 17-7 PH
While 304 is common in general equipment bodies, 301 is particularly associated with high-strength strip and springs. The spring stainless grade 17-7 PH has a different composition and strengthening behaviour. A magnetic response in certain 301 product conditions is also normal: structural changes accompanying increased strength can affect this physical characteristic.
