Availability depends on grade and dimensions. Tolerance, surface, delivery condition and certificate requirements must be confirmed in the quotation.

Hot-rolled, cold-drawn, ground and forged starting stock describe different surface and dimensional expectations. Identify which surfaces remain on the finished part and how much material will be removed. A ground surface does not remove the need to specify diameter tolerance and straightness.
Distinguish straightness from runout
Diameter tolerance, bar straightness and rotational runout are different checks. Nominal diameter alone may be insufficient for long shafts and bearing surfaces. List purchased diameter, finished diameter, useful length and machining/workholding allowance separately, including the measurement basis for special acceptance requirements.
