Solid square bars
Solid square bars are assessed by side dimension, corner condition and machining allowance. Unlike box section, the cross-section is solid throughout.

Availability depends on grade and dimensions. Tolerance, surface, delivery condition and certificate requirements must be confirmed in the quotation.
Solid square versus box section
Solid square stock can start a block or mechanical component. Box section is hollow and has a wall thickness. Equal outer dimensions do not give equal mass, machining possibilities or load response. Explicitly state that solid stock is required.
Include corner and surface allowance
Rolling or drawing affects corner radius and finish. If a finished component needs sharp corners, choose stock size accordingly. Specify surfaces to be milled, finished dimensions and the final heat-treatment plan together.
