What low carbon changes in service
Reducing carbon addresses embrittlement concerns associated with carbon or graphite precipitation during certain thermal exposures. An enquiry stating only “pure nickel” therefore does not distinguish 200 from 201. Sharing the actual temperature range and continuous or intermittent operating pattern helps define a suitable grade and delivery requirement.
Describe the process chemistry fully
Use in alkaline processes does not imply equal resistance to every contaminant. Sulfur-containing compounds, oxidisers and flow conditions can influence selection. Surface cleanliness before heating and welding also matters. Low carbon does not replace a suitable fabrication procedure or a review of the service environment.
Sheet and strip specifications
AMS 5553 is an example specification for low-carbon annealed nickel sheet and strip; it does not automatically apply to bar. A product-appropriate route such as ASTM B160 is considered for rod and bar. Include form, dimensions, annealing condition, tests and documentation, and read 2.4061 or 2.4068 identifiers with the required specification.
