Geometry and surface protection
2017A is generally considered for a machined mechanical part rather than a welded body. The strength contribution of copper must be assessed together with protection of the surface against its operating environment. Include planned painting, coating or other surface treatment in the request. The alloy name alone does not establish suitability for marine exposure or continuously wet service.
Temper and machining sequence
Specify conditions such as T4 or stress-relieved T451 together with product form and standard. Machining allowance and operation sequence matter particularly for deep pockets or parts with extensive material removal from plate. Stress-relieved delivery does not mean that a component will remain completely stable under every machining condition. Include section, orientation, surface and finished-tolerance expectations in the technical request.
Distinguish 2017A from AA 2017
The European EN AW-2017A designation should not be treated as unconditionally interchangeable with the closely related AA 2017. Requests using A92017 require confirmation of chemistry, product form and temper. Bars and plates do not share an identical specification list. If welding or a different corrosion requirement calls for another alloy, that change remains a separate material-selection decision even when dimensions are unchanged.
Typical application areas
Machined blocks, fasteners, mechanical components.
Product and cutting options
Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request 3.1325 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
