Distinguish T6, T651 and T6511
Stating T6 alone does not always explain stress-relief and product-form requirements for 6061. T651 encountered for plate and T6511 for extruded products are different delivery designations. Parts involving extensive machining need section, operation sequence and finished tolerance defined together. Verify specification-dependent mechanical properties with that temper and dimensional information rather than applying one general value.
Plan welding and machining together
6061 is considered for projects combining welding and machining, but strength changes around welds must enter the assessment. Parent-material properties before thermal exposure do not apply directly to the completed joint. Operating environment and surface protection also guide selection. An application label such as marine hardware does not establish equal performance under all exposure conditions; review joint geometry and maintenance conditions separately.
Read international designations in context
Read A96061, EN AW-6061 and related material designations with the governing purchase specification. An aerospace reference such as WL 3.3214 can add requirements beyond the general grade name. AMS 4116 is an example for 6061-T4 bar, rod and wire; it does not automatically cover plate or other tempers. Similar properties do not justify unapproved substitution when a drawing specifies another 6xxx alloy.
Typical application areas
Machine components, structural profiles, automotive and marine hardware.

Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request 3.3211 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
