Start with the working conditions
Chloride levels, temperature, stagnant water and design conditions must be assessed for shafts, pumps and connections. Stainless grades do not all perform equally in marine service.
Marine atmosphere and seawater contact differ
A connection exposed to salty coastal air works differently from a submerged pump component. Stagnant water, biological deposits, gasket crevices and temperature affect localised corrosion risk. Shaft selection must also account for loading, fatigue and surface condition. Compare 316L, duplex and super duplex against actual service data.
- Immersion, splash or atmospheric exposure
- Flow, temperature, deposits and maintenance
- Shaft length, contact surfaces and dimensional acceptance
Grades to explore
These grades are starting points for discussion, not a substitute for project-specific material selection.
