NICKEL-COPPER

Monel K-500 / 2.4375 Nickel Alloy

Monel K-500 is an age-hardenable nickel-copper alloy containing aluminium and titanium. It is considered for components requiring higher mechanical strength alongside corrosion resistance. Sharing a family with Monel 400 does not imply identical delivery conditions or cracking behaviour.

Delivery requirements behind high strength

Aluminium and titanium additions allow strength to increase through controlled ageing. Annealed and aged material therefore should not be described by identical mechanical values. Establish the component’s manufacturing steps and define dimensions, condition and final testing together, rather than placing an incomplete order based only on the grade name.

Assess environmental cracking separately

General corrosion resistance does not prove that a highly stressed component will resist cracking in every environment. Ageing condition, hardness, H₂S exposure or cathodic protection in seawater can affect selection. K-500 should not receive an unrestricted seawater or sour-service designation without reviewing the actual conditions.

Welding and final-treatment sequence

A welded component requires the base metal, filler and final heat treatment to be considered together; the weld should not be assumed to harden like the base metal. ASTM B865 and AMS 4676 are examples associated with relevant long products. They do not automatically establish acceptance for sheet or pipe.

Typical application areas

Pump shafts, valve internals, marine fasteners and downhole equipment.

  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 2.4375 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
