A different role from Grade 1 and Grade 5
Grade 2 is considered where more strength is needed than Grade 1 provides within the commercially pure family. Difficult bends or deep forming still require a separate assessment of forming allowance. Its difference from Grade 5 extends beyond strength to alloy structure and processing behaviour. Changing the grade on an existing drawing requires technical review even when dimensions remain unchanged.
Prepare for welding and machining
For tube or sheet fabrication, clean surfaces and adequate shielding are essential inputs to weld quality. Machined parts need rigid workholding, suitable tool geometry and effective cooling considered together. One cutting speed is not suitable for every diameter, tool and machine. Properties of annealed stock should not be applied directly to cold-worked material or regions affected by welding heat.
Include the process conditions
Fluid composition, temperature, pressure and surface requirements guide material selection for exchangers, piping and connections. Specify form, dimensions, delivery condition and inspection documentation when requesting a quotation. AMS 4902, for example, concerns sheet, strip and plate; it should not be assumed to cover bars or tubes automatically. Assess the product standard together with the grade designation.
Typical application areas
Heat exchangers, process piping, machined connection parts.
Product and cutting options
Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request 3.7035 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
