Let the geometry guide selection
Grade 1 is useful when ductility and cold forming take priority over high strength. It is distinct from Grade 2: choosing a section that bends more readily also requires a load assessment for that grade. Define bend radius and rolling direction alongside thickness. A similar surface appearance does not establish interchangeability between the two grades.
Clean surfaces and controlled processing
Control titanium’s interaction with air during welding and hot processing. Surface preparation, shielding including the weld root, and the required final surface condition belong in the manufacturing plan. Annealing helps manage stresses and ductility after forming; Grade 1 should not be treated as a precipitation-hardening alloy. Heat accumulation also needs attention during machining.
Specify the form and governing standard
For process or heat-exchanger requests, include product form, dimensions, annealed delivery condition and inspection requirements. ASTM B265 addresses flat products, while ASTM B348/B348M covers bars and billets; a shared grade name does not combine their scopes. State the fluid, temperature and exposure conditions so corrosion requirements can be assessed beyond the commercial designation alone.
