Temper belongs in the marine specification
For 5083 plate, do not use O or H111 interchangeably with conditions such as H116 and H321. Mechanical properties and required corrosion inspections depend on delivery requirements. A grade name alone is insufficient for marine structures, tanks or specialist equipment. Define thickness, product standard, temper and project-specific testing together to establish the purchasing scope.
Post-weld behaviour and temperature
For welded bodies, assess the parent material’s delivery temper separately from weld-region properties. Do not treat 5083 like an alloy brought to T6 by heat treatment. Prolonged warm service also needs evaluation because magnesium-bearing alloys can sensitise. Avoid selection against one general service limit without stating temperature, duration and exposure conditions; connection details also belong in the assessment.
Product form and surface expectations
Sheet and plate are prominent forms of this grade. For machined parts, state cutting dimensions, allowance and surface condition. Decorative-anodising expectations require separate consideration from corrosion-led selection. AMS 4056 is an example for 5083-O sheet and plate; it does not extend automatically to other tempers or forms. Define inspection documentation and additional tests at quotation.
Typical application areas
Marine structures, welded tank parts, process plates.

Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request 3.3547 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
