T6 and T73 serve different priorities

Selecting 7075 requires more than focusing on its highest strength value. T6/T651 and T73/T7351 conditions offer different balances between strength and stress-corrosion behaviour. Choosing an overaged condition may involve accepting lower mechanical capacity. Decide with loading, environment, section orientation and drawing requirements considered together. Temper is not a detail to leave until after the order.

Machined geometry and joining method

For deeply machined blocks and plate parts, assess 7075 with allowance, material-removal sequence and surface protection. It should not be treated as a general fusion-welding alloy for welded structures. If welding requirements lead to another grade, revisit the load assessment too. High strength alone does not demonstrate fatigue performance, damage tolerance or final-component suitability; geometry matters.

Match the specification to form and temper

AMS 4078 is an example for T73 sheet and T7351 plate; AMS 4124 addresses T73/T7351 rolled or cold-finished bars, rods and wire. These numbers are not unrestricted equivalents for all 7075 products. State dimensions, temper, product standard, machining allowance and inspection documentation. For aerospace or defense applications, also identify any additional manufacturing, testing and traceability requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 3.4365 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
