MATERIAL GROUP
Aluminium alloys
2017A, 5083, 5754, 6060, 6061, 6082 and 7075. Assess machining, welding, forming and structural requirements with the alloy and temper.
Why specify temper with the alloy?
6061-T6 conveys more than 6061 alone. Heat treatment, cold work and stress relief influence mechanical and machining behaviour. O/H conditions in 5xxx alloys do not represent the same mechanism as T conditions in heat-treatable 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx alloys.
Choose through the production route
A welded marine component, anodised profile and deeply pocketed machined plate have different requirements. Post-weld strength, surface appearance and residual stresses can change the selection. Send alloy, temper, product form, finished dimensions and processing plan together.
