What does molybdenum change?

Molybdenum supports resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in certain chloride environments. This does not make 316 suitable for every seawater or acid application. Fluid composition, temperature, stagnant areas and cleaning methods are needed to assess whether changing from 304 to 316 addresses the problem.

Carbon limit in welded parts

The lower carbon limit of 316L matters in weld fabrication. The material specification and product form also determine mechanical acceptance requirements. State that welding is planned alongside the grade request, and explicitly request dual certification if the project requires it.

Bar, pipe and flange are different orders

Bar requires diameter and machining allowance; pipe requires outside diameter, wall and manufacturing method; a flange requires connection dimensions and pressure class. The 316 label does not make these products subject to one acceptance specification. Send the required document and product standard with the dimensions.

Typical application areas

Pump and valve components, process piping, heat exchangers and tank parts.

Product and cutting options

Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.

What to specify in your enquiry

  • Grade designation and applicable material standard
  • Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 1.4401 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
