The condition matters alongside the grade

Ti-6Al-4V is a different alloy from the commercially pure Grade 1–4 family. Annealed and solution-treated-and-aged conditions should not be assumed to have identical properties. Define loading, section thickness and subsequent manufacturing steps together. One strength value cannot represent every bar and plate; request the required mechanical properties with the product standard and delivery condition.

Plan machining and surface requirements

Machining needs attention to heat concentration at the cutting zone, tool engagement and component rigidity. Defining allowance and surface requirements alongside stock dimensions helps establish the cutting request. Welding or hot processing also calls for assessment of oxygen effects and surface condition. Bending expectations for commercially pure titanium do not transfer directly to Grade 5; select processing conditions separately.

Product form, WL designation and ELI distinction

AMS 4911 concerns sheet, strip and plate, while AMS 4928 addresses forms including bar, wire and forgings. Read 3.7165 and WL 3.7164 with their governing requirements; assigning one exclusively to sheet and the other to bar is incorrect. Standard Grade 5 is identified by UNS R56400. If ELI is required, specify the low-interstitial material separately rather than assuming automatic substitution.

Typical application areas

Structural components, lightweight mechanical parts, aerospace and defense projects.

  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 3.7165 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
