Machining and final strength are separate stages
Solution-treated starting stock and fully aged material should not be purchased against the same mechanical expectation. The forming, machining and welding sequence should establish when final heat treatment will take place. Tests must represent the required final condition, providing a more complete check than verification of the alloy name alone.
Load, temperature and duration together
Brief exposure to heat and prolonged loading at the same temperature can lead to different selections. The corrosion resistance of 718 does not make it a substitute for every higher-molybdenum process alloy. Separately defining mechanical requirements, service temperature and exposure time helps establish an appropriate delivery route.
Distinguish similar AMS specifications
For long products, AMS 5662 illustrates the solution-treated, unaged route, while AMS 5663 includes solution and precipitation treatments. The different number changes the delivery requirements. Specify dimensions, section limits, revision, tests and traceability together. The alloy designation alone does not establish aerospace approval.
Typical application areas
Turbine components, aerospace fasteners, high-strength shafts and engine hardware.

- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request 2.4668 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
