PRECISION IN MATERIAL. CLARITY IN SUPPLY.

AGE-HARDENABLE IRON BASED

A-286 / 1.4980 Stainless Steel

An iron-based austenitic high-temperature alloy strengthened by ageing. For loaded hot components, delivery and heat-treatment conditions are as important as the alloy name.

What requirement does A-286 address?

A-286 is considered where load and temperature occur together. Its iron-based composition should not be classified as nickel based solely from a trade name. For hot fasteners, creep and service duration enter material selection alongside short-term tensile strength.

Solution treatment and ageing

Solution-treated material awaiting ageing is different from aged delivery. Machining sequence and final mechanical acceptance are defined accordingly. Specifications such as AMS 5731 and AMS 5732 include treatment condition in their identity; similar chemistry alone is insufficient.

Ordering for hot fasteners

Send the product specification, delivery condition, testing and traceability requirements with diameter and length. Raw-bar supply and conformity of a finished fastener are separate scopes. A temperature value alone is also insufficient: loading and intended service duration complete the assessment.

Typical application areas

High-temperature fasteners, turbine and engine auxiliary components.

  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request A-286 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
