At which stage is hardness required?

Buying annealed bar for later hardening is a different production plan from machining quenched-and-tempered stock. A 410 enquiry should define delivery condition, target hardness and who performs the final treatment. Section size and final heat treatment affect the mechanical properties to be assessed.

Distinguish it from 410S

410 is a martensitic grade used where heat-treatment hardening is expected. Low-carbon 410S behaves differently. An order described only as 400-series or chromium stainless is incomplete: specify 1.4006 and S41000 in the context of the required standard.

Corrosion and welding requirements

A martensitic structure does not provide the same corrosion behaviour as austenitic 304L or 316L. Surface condition and heat treatment also matter. Welding requires a suitable procedure addressing cracking and treatment sequence. State the fluid, operating temperature and welding requirement for valve or shaft enquiries.

Typical application areas

Valve parts, shafts, connections and general mechanical components.

Product and cutting options

Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.

What to specify in your enquiry

  • Grade designation and applicable material standard
  • Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 1.4006 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
