600 and 601 address different requirements
The highest temperature alone is insufficient when selecting a furnace component. Thermal cycling, atmosphere and applied load must be assessed together. The cyclic oxidation behaviour associated with aluminium in Alloy 601 addresses a different priority from the chemical-service reasons for choosing 600; the two grades are not direct substitutes.
Annealed and cold-worked conditions
Annealed material provides a different starting point for forming, while cold work changes strength and machining behaviour. Oil, marking residues and harmful contaminants must be removed before welding or heating. A single hardness or tensile value should not define an order without considering the subsequent manufacturing steps.
Select the specification for the product form
ASTM B166 for rod and bar and ASTM B168 for sheet and plate are examples of product specifications with different acceptance scopes. Include the alloy identity, form, dimensions, delivery condition and documentation requirements in the enquiry. Corrosive processes also require the fluid composition, concentration and temperature to be defined.
Typical application areas
Heat-treatment fixtures, process heaters, furnace hardware and chemical equipment components.
Product and cutting options
Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request 2.4816 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
