What is Hastelloy X?
The Hastelloy name includes alloys with different purposes. Grade X is associated particularly with high-temperature duties. Its nickel, chromium, iron and molybdenum composition combines hot-gas resistance and mechanical properties, distinct from acid-service grades such as C-276.
Its role in combustion sections
Combustion chambers and transition ducts guide hot gases, while flame holders and burner components operate within them. These are characteristic turbine applications for Alloy X. Its formability also supports components with broad or curved hot-section surfaces.
Furnace and process equipment
Alloy X also serves industrial furnace internals, retorts, baffles and petrochemical equipment. These duties combine hot strength with resistance to furnace atmospheres, extending its use beyond aviation.
Alloy X is not X-750
Alloy X and X-750 are separate materials. X-750 is age-hardenable and associated with springs and fasteners, whereas X serves combustion and hot-gas parts. Alloy X uses the identifiers 2.4665 and N06002.
Typical application areas
Combustion chambers, transition ducts, flame holders and furnace internals.
