Special alloys and PH steels

PH stainless, Nitronic grades and maraging steels. Materials collected in this section have different strengthening mechanisms and corrosion behaviour.

One section, different mechanisms

Stainless grades such as 17-4 PH are assessed by ageing condition, while maraging steels use precipitation strengthening in a low-carbon structure. Nitronic 50 and 60 are austenitic and are not selected as PH stainless steels. A high-strength label alone misses these differences.

Specification and manufacturing sequence

Solution-treated stock, aged delivery and final-component treatment are separate stages. Define processing sequence and mechanical acceptance requirements alongside target hardness. Product form, section orientation and test location may also need definition for critical components.
