Machinability differs between PH grades
The preferred machining condition for AM 355 cannot be selected using a rule applied to every PH steel. Equalized-and-overtempered delivery may be considered for machining. Solution-treated material has a different work-hardening response; starting and final conditions should be clearly separated in the manufacturing plan.
Transformation and hardening work together
The properties of AM 355 cannot be explained by one ageing temperature alone. The chosen processing route affects structural transformation and final mechanical condition. Corrosion and toughness can differ between conditions; a value published for one state does not guarantee another delivery condition.
Include component function and condition together
AMS 5743 and AMS 5744 are examples describing different heat-treated deliveries within the bar and forging family. State the required condition alongside dimensions and documentation needs. A compressor application example does not establish suitability for every turbine location or every combination of temperature and load.
Typical application areas
Compressor components, disc and shaft blanks, specialized aerospace parts.
Product and cutting options
Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request AM 355 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
