Ageing condition is part of the component definition
Condition A, H900 and H1150 deliveries do not define the same properties. Higher hardness is not the right choice for every part; ductility, toughness and stress-corrosion requirements also matter. Near-final machining may be possible, but the small dimensional change during ageing still belongs in the tolerance plan.
Magnetism and stainless behaviour are different properties
The magnetic response of 17-4 PH does not mean that it has lost its stainless character. However, the stainless designation does not guarantee equal resistance in every seawater or chloride environment. Surface cleanliness, stress level, environment and ageing condition should be assessed together.
Specify melting route and form alongside the designation
Specifying 1.4548 alone does not prove VAR production. For example, AMS 5643 and AMS 5622, which includes remelting requirements, define different requirements within the bar and forging family. Preserve this distinction by providing grade, dimensions, final condition and documentation needs together.
Typical application areas
Pump shafts, valve parts, high-strength connections.

Frequently asked questions
Can I request 1.4542 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
