Separate stock condition from final condition
Ordering Condition A for machining differs from requesting aged delivery. The final condition is selected for ductility and toughness as well as strength. In welded components, heat-affected-zone behaviour and subsequent treatment should be considered alongside the starting material condition.
Limits of comparison with 17-4 PH
Selecting 15-5 PH often concerns section size and loading direction rather than simply achieving higher hardness. Ferrite structure and production route affect transverse behaviour. Corrosion resistance likewise cannot be reduced to a single ranking valid for every environment.
Bar and plate do not share one specification
AMS 5659 for the bar and forging family and AMS 5862 for sheet and plate are common examples. Changing form may also change test and acceptance requirements. Include dimensions, ageing condition, melting requirements and any transverse-test requirement to define the intended product accurately.
Typical application areas
Aerospace parts, valve and shaft components, energy equipment.
Product and cutting options
Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request 15-5 PH in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
