Values describe the grade, not the analysis of a specific batch. The applicable product specification and material certificate determine acceptance. A dash does not mean zero.
What is 1.4530 PH stainless?
1.4530 is a PH stainless steel used where high strength and toughness are required alongside corrosion resistance. PH identifies the family capable of developing high strength through precipitation hardening. The grade contains chromium and nickel with molybdenum, aluminium and titanium. Its very low-carbon composition addresses loaded mechanical components rather than the cutting duties associated with high-carbon blade steels.
1.4530 — heat-treatment conditions
Ageing conditions for 1.4530 give different balances of strength and toughness. The 520 °C and 540 °C cycles below are published producer reference conditions for this grade; H900 or H1025 designations do not automatically correspond to them.
Temperatures are nominal. Holding time starts after the material reaches the specified temperature. The table explains the conditions; furnace tolerances, section size and acceptance requirements follow the applicable product specification.
| Condition | Temperature (°C) | Time at temperature | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solution treated | 840 | Per product specification | Air, oil or water |
| 520 °C age | 520 | 4 h | Per product specification |
| 540 °C age | 540 | 4 h | Per product specification |
1.4530 — mechanical properties by condition
These typical values illustrate one published producer implementation of 1.4530, not guaranteed properties of every 1.4530 product.
MPa and N/mm² are equivalent units. Typical values are neither batch test results nor guaranteed acceptance limits; stated minima and maxima apply only within the product scope described.
| Condition | Tensile Rm (MPa) | Yield Rp0.2 (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Charpy KV (J) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 520 °C / 4 h | 1430 | 1385 | 10.5 | 45 |
| 540 °C / 4 h | 1240 | 1195 | 12.5 | 120 |
Strength together with toughness
A connection or shaft needs to carry load, while its response to sudden or changing forces also matters. Strength describes load capacity; toughness concerns energy absorbed before fracture. 1.4530 is used where both characteristics are important. Stainless behaviour adds value in components exposed to moisture or fluids alongside their mechanical duties.
Applications
Aerospace-related mechanical parts, marine components and pressure equipment are application examples. Connections, shafts and loaded bodies in these areas can require demanding mechanical properties. The character of 1.4530 lies in combining strength and toughness with corrosion resistance. A stainless material capable of demanding mechanical service defines its main role.
Distinct from 13-8 PH and 17-4 PH
1.4530 belongs to the same broad family as 13-8 PH and 17-4 PH but has its own alloy composition. Chromium, nickel and strengthening-element contents vary between these grades, affecting mechanical properties and corrosion behaviour. Also identified as S11800, 1.4530 is a PH stainless option emphasising strength and toughness together.
