SOLID-SOLUTION ALLOY

Alloy 601 / 2.4851 Nickel Alloy

Alloy 601 is an aluminium-containing nickel-chromium-iron alloy considered for hot equipment that requires an adherent protective oxide scale through repeated heating and cooling. This characteristic does not remove the need to assess the mechanical load at service temperature.

Oxidation and load-carrying capacity

Resistance to surface oxidation does not by itself demonstrate the ability to carry sustained load at the same temperature. Furnace atmosphere, exposure time, section size and mechanical stress must be considered together. Defining the thermal cycle is particularly useful for equipment that is repeatedly heated and cooled.

Atmosphere and fabrication cleanliness

Alloy 601 is not an age-hardening grade. Forming and welding plans depend on the starting condition and final use. Surface cleanliness and control of sulfur-bearing contaminants matter before heating. Suitability for an oxidising furnace atmosphere does not establish suitability for a different reducing or sulfur-containing environment.

State the annealing condition clearly

AMS 5715 for annealed long products and AMS 5870 for solution-treated flat products illustrate the distinction between form and delivery condition. These are more than alternative numbers. Defining dimensions, specification revision, required condition and any tests helps avoid receiving a differently conditioned product under a similar alloy name.

Typical application areas

Furnace baskets, retorts, heat-treatment hardware and hot-gas components.

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 2.4851 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
