Hardness is not the only criterion

440C is considered where high hardness and wear behaviour matter together. Impact toughness, corrosive environment and part geometry require separate assessment. Moving from a 420 grade involves more than comparing achievable hardness: cracking and dimensional change also need consideration.

Annealed stock and hardened component

Annealed stock for machining and a component at final hardness are different deliveries. Grinding allowance, distortion and surface cleaning after treatment belong in the production plan. Add any required melting route or bearing-specific specification to the general 440C designation.

Preparing an enquiry for cutting parts

Provide target hardness, environment and finishing sequence with section, quantity and length. Flag any welding requirement at the start; welding this high-carbon grade is not a routine assembly step. Medical-device use additionally requires verification of the applicable component requirements.

Typical application areas

Bearing components, valve seats, cutting and wear parts.

Product and cutting options

Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.

What to specify in your enquiry

  • Grade designation and applicable material standard
  • Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 1.4125 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
