A nickel-bearing martensitic grade

431 is used for shafts and machine components where strength, toughness and defined corrosion conditions are assessed together. Mention in marine applications does not establish suitability for every seawater condition. Describe actual loading alongside fluid, temperature and surface requirements.

Clarify heat-treatment condition and shaft acceptance

The grade name alone does not define one supplied hardness or quenched-and-tempered condition. State final diameter, working length, bearing contact surfaces and required straightness or runout acceptance. Subsequent welding or renewed heat treatment may require reassessing properties and dimensional condition.

If your enquiry uses the name 431F

1.4057 / S43100 are references used to identify grade 431. The commercial wording 431F does not automatically establish a sulfur-added free-machining grade. Check the complete drawing identity, product specification and machinability requirement together.

Typical application areas

Shafts, pump parts, glass mould and machine components.
