Low carbon does not mean low strength

1.4313 uses nickel in a grade where martensitic structure and toughness are considered together. The delivered quenched-and-tempered condition determines mechanical properties. Hardness alone is insufficient for a pump shaft: impact behaviour, section and service environment also matter.

Separate bar and forging designations

F6NM occurs in the context of forged flange and fitting specifications. This does not automatically establish the same product conformity for every 1.4313 bar. EN and ASTM chemistry and test requirements should not be assumed identical. State which specification governs the enquiry.

Welded or repaired components

Where welding is planned, filler, preheat and post-weld treatment requirements are determined through an appropriate procedure. Treatment temperatures from other martensitic steels should not simply be transferred. A previous certificate, target mechanical requirements and starting section help clarify replacement-part sourcing.

Typical application areas

Hydroturbine components, pump shafts, valve and hydraulic parts.

What to specify in your enquiry

  • Grade designation and applicable material standard
  • Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request 1.4313 in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
