Values describe the grade, not the analysis of a specific batch. The applicable product specification and material certificate determine acceptance. A dash does not mean zero.
What does the niobium addition do?
1.4511 has a chromium content close to the 430 family but is stabilised with niobium. This addition is relevant to intergranular-corrosion behaviour around welding and thermal exposure. Its ferritic structure is magnetic and has a different thermal-expansion behaviour from common austenitic stainless steels. The names 430Nb and 430LNb describe this stabilised character.
Exhaust and heat-distribution applications
Alongside exhaust systems and tubing, diffusion bases for induction cookware are established applications. Magnetic response, formability and thermal behaviour can all be useful in these components. However, 1.4511 does not share the corrosion properties of molybdenum-bearing 444. Ferritic grades should not be treated as identical in saline or more demanding chemical environments.
Its relationship with 430 and 441
430 / 1.4016 is a general-purpose ferritic stainless steel. Grade 1.4511 uses niobium stabilisation, whereas 441 / 1.4509 combines titanium and niobium in a different composition. Membership of the same family does not establish identical welding or elevated-temperature behaviour. Retaining the separate designations makes these distinctions visible.
Mechanical properties of annealed long products
This range applies to the stated +A long-product conditions and sections up to 50 mm under EN 10088-3:2014. It is not combined with sheet or cold-drawn bar values. Elongation is for longitudinal testing.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile strength Rm | 420–620 MPa |
| Proof strength Rp0.2 | ≥ 200 MPa |
| Elongation A | ≥ 20% |
Typical application areas
Exhaust systems, tubes and heat-distributing components.
