ALLOY STEEL

Nitriding 135 / 135M Alloy Steel

Nitriding 135 / 135M is an alloy-steel family developed to form a hard, wear-resistant nitrided case. Aluminum supports nitride formation, while core strength remains a separate requirement. The delivery condition of modified material ordered as K24065 should be defined explicitly.

Prepare the core before nitriding

The final surface treatment does not replace the required core properties. Prior hardening and tempering, rough machining and remaining allowance affect the processing sequence. Avoiding a conventional final quench during nitriding does not mean that dimensional change or stresses cannot arise elsewhere in manufacturing.

135 and the modified designation

Commercial enquiries may use 135 and 135M together; they should not be reduced to one chemistry table without checking. The requested UNS and specification identify the modified product required. For example, AMS 6471 defines vacuum-remelting requirements for a bar, forging and mechanical-tubing family.

Include the case requirement in the enquiry

For gear or shaft blanks, discuss finished dimensions, core delivery condition and the required post-nitriding surface properties together. Supplying stock and delivering a completed surface treatment are different scopes. This steel is not stainless; the environment and corrosion-protection requirements need separate assessment.

Typical application areas

Gears and pinions, cams, shafts, wear-loaded pins and bushings.

Product and cutting options

Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.

What to specify in your enquiry

  • Grade designation and applicable material standard
  • Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
  • Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements

Frequently asked questions

Can I request Nitriding 135 / 135M in cut lengths?+

Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.

Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+

Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
