Retaining clamping force in a fastener
High tensile strength alone does not explain how well a bolt retains clamping force in service. Temperature, time and stress relaxation influence joint behaviour. Define the operating pattern alongside initial mechanical properties when assessing MP159; a small-specimen result does not directly establish every requirement of a finished connection.
Cold work and ageing together
Solution-treated starting stock, work-strengthened material and the final aged condition have different properties. Deformation within the production route matters to final strength. Without the component geometry and manufacturing sequence, materials sharing the grade name should not be assumed to have identical hardness and ductility.
Work strengthened or aged?
AMS 5842 illustrates work-strengthened bar, while AMS 5843 additionally includes ageing. Section limits and testing scope must be checked in the applicable revision; neither number applies to every diameter or form. Include UNS R30159, dimensions, target condition and traceability. An unverified Werkstoff number should not be used to construct an equivalence chain.
Typical application areas
High-strength aerospace connections, hot engine bolts and loaded mechanical components.
Product and cutting options
Share the section and dimensions you require for this grade. Availability is assessed for each request; the catalogue does not represent live stock.
What to specify in your enquiry
- Grade designation and applicable material standard
- Section, finished dimensions and machining allowance
- Quantity, delivery condition and certificate requirements
Frequently asked questions
Can I request MP159 in cut lengths?+
Share your required section, dimensions and quantity. Our team will assess suitable supply and cutting options for the specific grade.
Are the listed grade designations interchangeable?+
Designation systems can overlap, but they do not make every specification identical. Use the exact standard and certificate requirements defined by your project.
