Values describe the grade, not the analysis of a specific batch. The applicable product specification and material certificate determine acceptance. A dash does not mean zero.
Maintaining spring performance
Elgiloy is used where a small component must flex repeatedly and return to its original shape. Springs are a familiar example: each application of force loads the material again. Resistance to repeated loading is known as fatigue strength. Together with high strength, this characteristic explains its role in precision mechanisms operating through many movement cycles.
Where corrosion resistance helps
Chromium and molybdenum contribute to corrosion resistance. In damp surroundings or equipment exposed to chemicals, surface durability matters alongside spring force. Sealing elements in oil and gas equipment illustrate this use. Elgiloy is established where mechanical movement and environmental resistance are required together within the same small component.
Elgiloy within the cobalt alloy family
Elgiloy is a specific cobalt-chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy identified as 2.4711 and UNS R30003. Although it shares some applications with other cobalt alloys, springs and precision elastic components are characteristic uses. Tungsten-bearing L-605 is associated with high-temperature applications, while repeated movement and corrosion resistance help define the particular role of Elgiloy.
Forms and applications
Wire springs, torsion elements and thin sealing components are principal applications. Bar products can also serve mechanical components. Precision equipment and certain medical components are further areas requiring small high-strength parts. Suitability for a medical product is determined through the material standard and finished-product requirements alongside the alloy identity.
Typical application areas
Springs, seals, torsion bars.
