Values describe the grade, not the analysis of a specific batch. The applicable product specification and material certificate determine acceptance. A dash does not mean zero.

A steel developed for heat resistance

1.4713 is selected for its behaviour against oxidation in hot air. Aluminium and silicon contribute to this characteristic. Applications include furnace grates, covers and chain components. Heat resistance here does not automatically mean high mechanical strength: the behaviour of a loaded component at temperature is a separate consideration.

How it differs from general stainless steels

With 6–8% chromium, 1.4713 differs from the general stainless-steel definition of at least 10.5% chromium. It should not be approached with the same corrosion expectations as grades such as 304 or 430. Heat-resistant ferritic alloy steel is the more useful description. X10CrAlSi7 is the current short name, while X10CrAl7 appears in older references.

Use in furnaces and hot-gas equipment

Furnace fittings, heat-treatment equipment, hot-gas components and certain automotive parts are among its uses. It is associated with oxidation resistance in air up to approximately 800 °C. This is not an allowable continuous-service temperature for every atmosphere and load. Gas composition, exposure time and loading affect the usable range.

A short technical overview

The temperature is an approximate oxidation-resistance reference in air, not a hot-strength or creep-life guarantee.
