1.4415 and the Super 13Cr designation
1.4415 is a low-carbon supermartensitic stainless steel within the Super 13Cr family. Its composition combines approximately 13 percent chromium with nickel and molybdenum and is associated with high-strength oil and gas equipment. Super 13Cr is a broad family designation rather than one complete product identity. It includes different composition limits and strength levels, while 1.4415 identifies a material by its own EN number.
Its role in oil and gas equipment
Onshore and offshore oil and gas installations, together with chemical and petrochemical equipment, are associated applications. Equipment in contact with process fluids often needs mechanical strength and corrosion resistance together. The role of 1.4415 is connected with this combination within one component. Its low carbon content and nickel-molybdenum alloy balance distinguish it from conventional 13 percent chromium martensitic steels.
Strength and corrosion resistance together
The supermartensitic designation describes a stainless family in which both strength and corrosion behaviour matter. It does not imply unlimited resistance to every chemical or automatic suitability for all oil and gas conditions. Fluid chemistry and temperature influence the useful application range. The value of 1.4415 lies in this balance for high-strength process equipment, rather than in a claim to be a universal stainless material.
How it differs from 1.4313 and 1.4418
Grades 1.4313 and 1.4418 are also nickel-bearing martensitic stainless steels, but 1.4415 has a separate identity. Their appearance in related equipment does not make them interchangeable. The same distinction applies to the different UNS designations found within the Super 13Cr family. Retaining the identity of 1.4415 alongside the broader family name gives a more accurate account of the material and the properties associated with it.
Typical application areas
Oil and gas equipment, high-strength process components.
