SOLID-SOLUTION ALLOY

Alloy HR-160 / 2.4880 Nickel Alloy

Alloy HR-160 is a nickel–cobalt–chromium–silicon alloy for equipment exposed to corrosive gases at high temperature. It is known particularly for resistance to sulphur-bearing hot environments. Applications include incinerators, heat-recovery equipment and hot-gas systems.

What distinguishes HR-160

Gas composition matters as well as temperature in hot-service materials. HR-160 illustrates this distinction: nickel, cobalt, chromium and silicon contribute to resistance in sulphur-bearing hot environments, making corrosive combustion gases a characteristic duty.

Hot corrosion and oxidation

Oxidation describes reaction with oxygen, while sulphur-bearing gases and other constituents can cause different surface effects. HR-160 is used in these more complex hot-corrosion environments, extending its role beyond oxidation resistance in air.

Incineration and heat recovery

Typical uses include waste incinerators, recuperators and heat exchangers, as well as hot-gas ducts and thermocouple protection tubes. Recovery boilers and some cement-kiln components are further examples where gas chemistry accompanies heat.

A separate grade from HR-120

HR-160 is not an alternative spelling of HR-120. Its cobalt- and silicon-bearing composition gives it a distinct hot-environment profile. It is identified by 2.4880 and N12160, despite applications overlapping those of other furnace alloys.

Typical application areas

Waste incinerators, recuperators, heat exchangers and hot-gas ducts.
