Values describe the grade, not the analysis of a specific batch. The applicable product specification and material certificate determine acceptance. A dash does not mean zero.

What distinguishes 1.4472?

1.4472 is associated with implant applications that need strength alongside corrosion resistance. Chromium, molybdenum and a high nitrogen content underpin these properties. Its composition differs from both standard 316L and implant-grade 316LVM. Producer names in the 734 family may refer to this material family, without establishing that a particular product comes from a specific brand.

Medical applications and material identity

Bone plates, screws and hip or knee components are established applications for this material family. Implant material and a finished medical device are different things: a catalogue designation does not establish that every product is approved for implantation. The relevant product specification includes mechanical and metallurgical requirements as well as chemical composition.

Why are F138 and F1586 different?

ASTM F1586 covers S31675 bar. ASTM F138 covers S31673 bar and wire, commonly associated with 1.4441. Their shared medical application does not establish the same identity. ISO 5832-9 likewise describes high-nitrogen implant steel rather than another name for ordinary 316L. F1586 is a product specification, not an AISI grade number.

Example mechanical values in the solution-annealed condition

The following minima are published in a producer long-product datasheet associated with ASTM F1586 for the solution-annealed and quenched condition. They are not universal acceptance values for every 1.4472 product or other delivery conditions. Medium-hard and hard conditions have different mechanical requirements.
