Values describe the grade, not the analysis of a specific batch. The applicable product specification and material certificate determine acceptance. A dash does not mean zero.
What does copper contribute to 1.4567?
A stainless fastener is not necessarily made entirely by turning. Small parts formed by deforming the metal are another substantial application. Grade 1.4567 is distinguished by its copper addition, which helps reduce the tendency of austenitic steel to harden during forming. It is therefore better understood as a separate option for formed components than as merely another name for 304.
Differences from 304, 305 and 303Cu
General-purpose 304 is a chromium-nickel stainless steel used in many types of equipment. Grade 305 / 1.4303 is associated with forming through a higher nickel range. Copper is an important part of the forming behaviour of 1.4567. By contrast, 303Cu / 1.4570 contains sulfur as well as copper and is associated with machinability. The names of these copper-bearing grades may look similar, but their principal application purposes differ.
Applications and corrosion behaviour
Fasteners, small housings, electronic components and formed kitchen-equipment parts are representative applications. Corrosion behaviour is related to the general 304 family; copper does not automatically establish suitability for seawater. Molybdenum-bearing 1.4578 is a separate option. Although it is a weldable austenitic steel, the principal distinguishing feature of 1.4567 is its formability in small components.
Mechanical properties of solution-annealed long products
The table gives room-temperature values for long products up to 160 mm in the +AT condition within EN 10088-3:2014. Elongation refers to longitudinal testing. Cold-deformed products can have different strength and elongation, so these ranges do not cover every delivery condition. As producers may use 304Cu for products with different copper ranges, this page specifically follows 1.4567 / X3CrNiCu18-9-4.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile strength Rm | 450–650 MPa |
| Proof strength Rp0.2 | ≥ 175 MPa |
| Elongation A, longitudinal | ≥ 45% |
Typical application areas
Fasteners, electronic components, small formed parts.
