Where magnetic interference matters
External magnetic fields can create unwanted effects in sensitive measuring and electronic equipment. 2.4545 is a high-permeability alloy used to redirect such fields. Shielding enclosures and thin protective pieces illustrate this role. It helps reduce the effect on a sensitive region, making it relevant where even small magnetic changes matter.
A nickel-molybdenum-bearing composition
High nickel content and the molybdenum addition are parts of the composition supporting its magnetic characteristics. Ready magnetisation in weak fields and a responsive change as the field changes are important features. This is described as soft magnetic behaviour. Softness refers to changing magnetisation rather than mechanical hardness, identifying the physical property central to its electrical applications.
Core and relay applications
Tape-wound cores, transformer parts and electromagnetic relays are further uses. These components may form a magnetic path or use changes in a field to perform an electrical function. Shielding parts use the ability to carry flux for a different purpose. Its appearance in both cores and enclosures reflects the use of related magnetic behaviour across different component forms.
Relationship to other magnetic alloys
2.4545 is a high-nickel magnetic alloy identified as UNS N14080. The related options 2.4420 and copper-chromium-bearing 2.4501 offer different characteristics within the wider family. Permeability and saturation affect a core or shield under different field conditions. The geometry of the finished component and material condition also influence how these characteristics perform in use.
Typical application areas
Magnetic shielding enclosures, sensitive cores, relay components.
