A material responsive to weak fields

2.4501 is a soft magnetic alloy that magnetises readily even in small applied fields. High permeability is important to this response. Low coercivity means a small field is sufficient to change its magnetisation. These properties matter together in small electrical parts that follow field changes or carry magnetic flux within precision equipment.

Relay and measuring components

Relays, transformers and measuring transducers are among its applications. Similar alloys also serve certain residual-current devices and tape-wound cores. The function of the metal is more specific than simply being attracted to a magnet. Its response in weak fields and ability to follow changing fields explain its use in sensitive equipment.

Magnetic shielding

An external magnetic field can introduce an unwanted influence in precision measurement or electronic equipment. Shielding components redirect the field, helping reduce its effect on a sensitive area. 2.4501 is one of the high-permeability alloys used for this purpose. An enclosure or thin protective part uses its magnetic response to protect a particular region of a device.

Relationship to other magnetic grades

2.4501 is also identified as UNS N14076. Copper and chromium in its high-nickel composition distinguish it from other magnetic options. Although 2.4420 and 2.4545 can serve related equipment, they have different magnetic characteristics. Thin flat products and strip provide geometries suited to the core and shielding duties of this particular alloy.

Relay components, magnetic shielding, measuring and transformer cores.
